Plans for a new trade fair
The prospects for holding a national trade fair for the German pet industry
in future during the year when no interzoo takes place look relatively good.
A decision is expected to be made by the IVH and ZZF suppliers' and retailers'
associations in February or March following the emergence of this idea at
the recent and final joint fair of the two voluntary purchasing cooperatives,
SagaFlor/SagaZoo and egesa-zookauf. The cities of Essen, Cologne and Wiesbaden
are being discussed as possible locations for such an exhibition. Whether
a national pet fair would be held in the spring - possibly at the same time
as Expozoo in Paris or Zoomark in Milan - or in the autumn is also still
an open question. Advocates of a national pet trade fair expect it to result
in a reduction in the number of small, purely regional fairs and exhibitions
within Germany which are currently increasing rapidly.

area has also been modernized. This section now has a new sales pond capable
of taking approx. 60 000 l of seawater and is equipped with the very latest
in modern technology. The De Jong company, which celebrates its 40th anniversary
this year, supplies specialist retailers throughout Germany, Austria and
Switzerland.

World novelties
Selzle Technik, the German manufacturer of products for aquarists, has
developed two world novelties at once. These devices, which are available
with immediate effect from German retailers, involve a "detector"
and a "protector". According to information received from the
company, they will provide complete protection against electric shocks in
the aquarium. A feature of both devices is their attractive appearance,
and they are in addition small in size and interestingly priced, in the
words of the manufacturer. Distribution in Germany…
