Attractions at Cologne
Pet supplies once again had only a secondary role to play at GAFA, the
international garden trade fair in Cologne. True to the belief that participation
is the name of the game, some companies from the pet sector did however
display their wares, mainly in halls 12.2 and 13.1 surrounded by pond
liner manufacturers, Christmas tree suppliers and producers of soil mixtures.
The majority of these exhibitors were there to establish new contacts with
garden centres and DIY stores: very few of them came in the expectation
of doing fantastic business deals at GAFA. Naturally the results achieved
after the three-day GAFA event were very varied. Whereas some companies
were doubtful about returning next year, others (mainly from the garden
pond sector) appeared extremely satisfied with the way the fair had gone.
A visit to SPOGA, which was held in tandem with GAFA and presented a broad
range of equestrian articles, was of interest to many visitors from the
pet sector.

Date of Domzoo altered
The date for holding the pet trade fair Domzoo has been put back by one
day as a result of the introduction of a new public holiday in Russia on
23 February. The fair will now take place in Moscow from 24 to 27 February
1999.

First turf turned at sera
A further stage in the construction of a new 2.500 m 2 production and
warehousing facility within the framework of the company's expansion of
its capacity has begun for sera in Heinsberg with the turning of the first
turf. The official opening of the new building is planned for early 1999.
As the reason for this further expansion sera cites its outstanding market
position and the worldwide demand for its products, which is continuing
to rise.

Heim-Tier & Pflanze '99
Heim-Tier & Pflanze, the trade fair for pets and plants, will be
taking place once again within the framework of the Berlin International
Green Week in Hall 2.2 of the exhibition site under the Berlin radio tower
from 22 to 31 January 1999. Organisers of the event are the Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft
Zoologischer Fachbetriebe (a commercial cooperative of specialist zoological
businesses), Messe Berlin and the Hobby, Tier & Pflanze GbR (a civil-law
association for hobbies, pets and plants). The exhibitors will be presenting
their products on a gross display space of 6.000 m 2 . Planned to create an
especially eye-catching display in 1999 is a subtropical waterscape complete
with orchids, birds and…
