2000, Nr. 6, S. 58 News        Expansion of Jonker's facilities    Jonker Petfood of ZG Veen in the Netherlands, the manufacturer specialising in private label products, has now given the starting signal for its production facilities in Waalwijk. The first phase of construction, which entails the installation of a fully automatic grinding and mixing plant together with the extension of silo capacity, has already begun. At the end of the year a third high-performance extruder is scheduled to begin production. In addition, a neighbouring site of 4 000 m2 has been acquired in Waalwijk to give the company scope for further expansion in future.         Pet fair in Atlantic City    More than 7 000 visitors came to the 12th Backer Annual Pet Industry Spring Trade Show in Atlantic City. This was a further increase over last year's event. The growing significance of this pet fair is emphasised by the more than 530 exhibitors with 869 stands. Among the peripheral events were a great number of seminars presenting topics of interest and a groomer competition also attracted many visitors.    The next Backer Show will take place in Chicago from 13 to 15 October. An interesting study trip is being organised by pet-Euro-Fachmagazin to this trade show, which is one of the most important in the USA. Further information can be obtained by faxing 0049/72 43/575-200.         Still further expansion for Zoomark    The advertising campaign for Zoomark 2001 has begun with the sending of information packs to all pet companies operating in Italy as well as the major international manufacturing and marketing concerns. This fair will be held in Milan from 1 to 4 March 2001. Mentioned by the organisers as the most important new feature is the 42nd National Congress of Veterinary Surgeons, due to be held at the same time as Zoomark. This congress is being organised by Scivac, the biggest Italian association of veterinary surgeons in the small animal sector.    Compared with Zoomark 1999 the exhibition area will be expanded by 8 000 m2 to a total of 42 800 m2. Halls 10, 11 and 12 of the exhibition site will be available for the use of Zoomark and Halls 22 and 23 for the congress. Since stands are allocated in order of registration, the organisers recommend prompt exhibitor registration.
